Summary of the Role
The Claims Specialist – Personal Effects is a key member of our Claims Department, responsible for managing the full lifecycle of household goods and personal effects claims. This role requires a balance of technical coverage analysis, strong customer communication, and disciplined claim-handling practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigation & Evaluation: Conduct thorough investigations of claims arising from the transit or storage of household goods and personal effects, including domestic moves, international shipments, and storage.
- Coverage & Liability Analysis: Review and interpret applicable policy forms, apply provisions to factual scenarios, and determine coverage and liability.
- Valuation & Settlement: Assess the value of lost or damaged items and negotiate fair, accurate settlements consistent with company guidelines.
- Customer Advocacy & Communication: Communicate clearly, empathetically, and proactively with insured individuals and clients.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain meticulous and timely claim documentation following internal controls and regulatory standards.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments, surveyors, independent adjusters, and brokers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Required Experience: 5–7 years of relevant claims experience (5+ years as a Claims Adjuster preferred).
- Industry Background: Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C), Inland Marine, or Household Goods/Moving claims is highly preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Licensing: Valid Claims Adjuster license(s), or a strong willingness to obtain them promptly upon hire.
- Skills: Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills with a customer-focused mindset. Ability to manage a high-volume caseload efficiently.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience navigating modern claims management systems and productivity suites (e.g., Google Workspace).
- Travel: Negligible.
Salary & Benefits
- Expected Salary Range: $70,000 – $75,000 * (Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and geographic working location).*
